Israeli Assessment Says Hamas Retains Significant Military Strength After War
Israeli security assessments reportedly estimate that Hamas’s armed wing still has around 25,000 fighters despite more than two years of war in Gaza.
According to Israel’s public broadcaster Kan, the assessment suggests Hamas has retained much of its military capability. Before the war, the group was estimated to have around 35,000 fighters, including approximately 5,000 members of its elite Nukhba unit. Israeli officials now estimate the unit has about 2,500 remaining fighters.
The report also claimed Israeli security agencies have observed an increase in Hamas executions of people accused of opposing the group or collaborating with Israel. It said such killings are reportedly being carried out secretly rather than publicly.
Kan also reported that Hamas sought greater support from Iran, including diplomatic backing and assistance in future negotiations.
