Israeli Strikes on Gaza Kill at Least Five, Including Children
At least five Palestinians, including children, have been killed and several others wounded in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian health officials.
Four people, including two children, were killed and eight wounded in a drone attack in the al-Kateeba district west of Gaza City. A separate Israeli strike in central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah killed at least one person.
Al Jazeera reported that multiple drones were seen over Gaza City during a period of intense attacks, with successive explosions reported across the area.
Hamas said an Israeli special force was detected during an operation in Gaza City. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the airstrikes were carried out to protect Israeli forces after an operation to arrest a Hamas member was discovered.
The Israeli military said it struck several targets across Gaza, claiming they posed threats to its forces.
Despite a US-backed ceasefire that began in October, Israeli attacks have continued. According to the report, at least 1,320 Palestinians have been killed and more than 4,300 injured since the ceasefire began.
