Muslim Man Critically Injured in Suspected Islamophobic Stabbing Attack in Utah

A Muslim mall worker remains in critical condition after being stabbed more than 15 times in an attack that police say was motivated by anti-Muslim hatred.

The victim, 37-year-old Syed Sohail Uddin, was attacked while working at a kiosk inside Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City, Utah. According to police, the suspect, 48-year-old Peter Michael Larsen, admitted he targeted Uddin because he was Muslim and intended to kill him.

Witnesses and nearby shoppers intervened, disarmed the suspect and restrained him until officers arrived. Uddin was taken to hospital with severe injuries and is expected to face a lengthy recovery.

Larsen was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and weapons-related offences. Authorities are also investigating the case as a possible hate crime. Muslim advocacy groups, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), condemned the attack and called for stronger action against rising anti-Muslim hate.
