Pakistan and Kuwait Discuss Expanded Defence Pact Amid Regional Tensions
Pakistan and Kuwait are negotiating a possible expanded defence pact that could include military cooperation, training, defence equipment and energy partnerships, according to sources familiar with the talks.
The discussions are at an early stage and come as Gulf countries reassess security arrangements amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran. Kuwait, which has faced regional security threats, is reportedly seeking stronger defence cooperation with Islamabad.
Sources said Kuwait has expressed interest in support such as military personnel, aircraft, drones and defence systems, but Pakistani officials indicated that a large-scale combat troop deployment is not currently being considered.
Pakistan is also seeking energy cooperation, including possible fuel storage and supply agreements with Kuwait. Analysts caution that Islamabad must balance security commitments with the risks of deeper involvement in regional conflicts.
