Trump Demands Gulf States Pay US for Strait of Hormuz Protection

US President Donald Trump has said Gulf countries should reimburse the United States for the cost of protecting the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that Washington spends heavily to secure a strategically important region.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the US was protecting a wealthy part of the world and should receive payment for its efforts.

He mentioned Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait as countries that benefit from US security support in the Gulf.
