Trump Threatens FCC Action Against Kristen Welker Amid Growing Media Tensions

US President Donald Trump has threatened to report NBC journalist Kristen Welker to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), accusing her of inaccurately describing his record of endorsing political candidates.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump objected to Welker’s claim that his endorsements had produced “mixed results” in primary elections ahead of November’s elections. He said the journalist would be reported to the FCC for what he called a “purposeful inaccuracy.”

Welker, who previously moderated the 2020 presidential debate between Trump and Joe Biden, hosts NBC’s Meet the Press. She has frequently questioned Trump on his claims and policies.

Trump has repeatedly criticized major US television networks and increasingly called for regulatory action against media organizations he accuses of spreading false information.

The latest threat comes amid wider tensions between the Trump administration and news organizations. Disney, owner of ABC News, has sued the FCC, alleging that an examination of several ABC station licences amounted to political retaliation.

The administration has also faced criticism over efforts to obtain journalists’ confidential sources. Press freedom organizations have warned that such actions could undermine protections for journalists and freedom of the press.
