Russian Drone and Missile Attacks Kill at Least 12 in Kyiv
At least 12 people have been killed and 21 injured in a major wave of Russian drone and missile attacks on Kyiv and the surrounding region, Ukrainian authorities said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said eight people were killed in the capital, while another four died in the Kyiv region. A residential building in Boryspil was damaged, with about 50 people evacuated.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks and said an Indian citizen was among those killed. He urged allies to strengthen Ukraine’s air-defence capabilities, warning that insufficient defences allow Russia to cause greater destruction.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia has increased the use of difficult-to-intercept drones. Officials said thousands of drones have been launched in recent days.
Russia said its forces targeted military and energy facilities in Kyiv, Odesa and surrounding areas. Ukraine also reported an attack on a ferry checkpoint near Romania.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones targeted sites in Russia, including the port area of Ust-Luga and the Samara region. Russia also reported casualties from Ukrainian attacks.
The latest escalation comes as EU defence and foreign ministers meet in Ireland to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s air defences, including its shortage of interceptor missiles and Patriot systems.
