Hezbollah has used a lull in fighting to prepare for the possibility of renewed hostilities with Israel, Lebanese security personnel familiar with the group’s activities say. They describe a three-month effort to restore military capabilities after the group suffered heavy losses in wars with Israel since 2024.
Lebanese security officials and a person close to Hezbollah said Iran provided tens of millions of dollars for military needs. The group has not confirmed a specific transfer. US officials have questioned Iran’s ability to keep financing Hezbollah as sanctions and restrictions on moving money intensify.
The preparations have focused on replacing explosives, producing drones that could be used against Israeli positions and repairing command-and-control structures damaged in earlier battles. The officials said Hezbollah had not fully replenished its stockpiles or prepared its fighting force for a new war. The group has acknowledged that explosives seized by Lebanese authorities belonged to it and were intended for use against Israel; a Lebanese security source and a Hezbollah official said they were specifically for explosive drones.
Hezbollah rejected claims that its command system had collapsed. It said Israel’s continued presence on Lebanese land makes resistance legitimate. Israeli forces remain in parts of southern Lebanon, while political pressure in Beirut for Hezbollah to disarm has grown.
The preparations reflect concern about a possible escalation, but do not establish that another war is imminent. Hezbollah’s readiness remains uncertain, and the reported funding details have not been publicly documented.
