Russian attacks on Ukraine continued as Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre held a rare phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Officials in Kyiv said the South Bridge was hit during overnight attacks involving 16 ballistic missiles and more than 280 drones. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian forces struck again while emergency crews were responding to the initial attacks, describing the damage as an escalation against Ukraine’s logistics infrastructure.

The Finnish and Norwegian leaders said they discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine and diplomatic efforts to end it. They spoke with Zelenskyy after the call, which Ukraine’s foreign minister said had been coordinated with Kyiv. Russia’s readout said lasting peace would require its interests to be taken into account. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov played down the initiative.

The attacks also caused deaths and injuries elsewhere. Officials in the Russian-controlled part of Zaporizhzhia said a drone strike on a bus killed one person and injured 30. Russian officials reported one person killed and six wounded in a separate drone attack on Bryansk.
