Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it is preparing to unveil a new weapon that a spokesman described as the “father of all bombs”. The announcement was made by IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi on Wednesday, but he did not disclose the weapon’s design, capabilities, testing history or expected unveiling date.

Mohebi said the weapon represented something new for Iran’s adversaries. His remarks were carried by Iran’s Young Journalists Club news agency. The phrase appears to be a nickname; no evidence or technical information was provided to establish how the weapon compares with existing conventional bombs.

The comments came days after US President Donald Trump referred to the possibility of using the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, known as the “mother of all bombs”, against Iranian nuclear facilities. The US weapon weighs about 9,800 kilograms and is among the largest non-nuclear bombs in the American arsenal.

Mohebi also claimed Iran’s missile stockpile had grown by one-and-a-half times since the 12-day Iran-Israel war in June 2025. He supplied no inventory figures. He said the missiles’ range, accuracy and destructive power had improved, and described a shift toward a deterrence strategy that could include asymmetric attacks. These statements were not accompanied by independently verifiable technical details.
